Professional Counselor I

About the role

The University Counseling Services at Texas A&M University at Galveston is seeking a Professional Counselor I to provide mental health and wellness support to enrolled students. The role involves direct client services, crisis response, and collaboration with campus and community partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide intake, assessment, and ongoing counseling to a caseload of at‑risk students.
• Respond to campus crises and critical incidents, including debriefings and supportive counseling.
• Serve as primary contact for community agencies such as Gulf Coast Services, UTMB Family Services Clinic, and NAMI.
• Develop and deliver wellness programs, mental health trainings, and educational events in partnership with Student Affairs and external stakeholders.
• Assist the Director of Counseling with office administration, calendar management, website updates, and reporting.
• Maintain confidential counseling records in compliance with licensure requirements.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or social work from an accredited institution.
• Relevant field placement or supervised experience in college counseling.
• Current counseling licensure (e.g., LPC, LCSW) and willingness to maintain it.
