Production Improvement Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Production Improvement Engineer to drive operational excellence on our Auburn Hills manufacturing floor. This on‑site position works closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Warehouse and Supply Chain teams to boost throughput, reduce waste and improve first‑pass yield.

Key responsibilities

• Lead operational excellence initiatives focused on material flow, plant layout, 5S, visual management, floor striping, labor efficiency and First Pass Yield improvements.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to improve throughput, reduce waste, optimize space utilization and increase overall manufacturing performance.
• Facilitate Kaizen events, structured problem‑solving activities and continuous improvement projects targeting safety, quality, delivery and productivity.
• Analyze and improve material flow across manufacturing and warehouse operations.
• Design and implement optimized plant layouts to reduce travel distance and improve ergonomics.
• Develop visual factory concepts, signage, shadow boards, labeling and production controls.
• Coordinate floor striping projects to enhance safety, material movement and forklift traffic flow.
• Conduct regular 5S and workplace organization audits, time studies and labor analysis.
• Develop standard work, labor standards and identify bottlenecks for cycle‑time reduction.
• Support staffing models, capacity planning and initiatives to improve First Pass Yield and reduce rework/scrap.

Required profile

• On‑site availability in Auburn Hills.
• Proven experience in Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen or continuous improvement.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and facilitate improvement events.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience with material flow analysis and plant layout design.
• Familiarity with visual management, workplace organization audits and floor striping.
• Experience conducting time studies and labor analysis.
• Capability to support staffing models, capacity planning and yield improvement initiatives.
