About the role
Fastly is looking for a Product Counsel to join its legal team. It reports to the Assistant General Counsel leading the Product, Technology and Regulatory team and is based in one of the offices, with a preference for San Francisco, CA.
Key responsibilities
- Partner day-to-day with product and engineering teams, joining planning and design discussions, reviewing features for legal risk and acting as the go-to legal point of contact for new products and launches
- Translate legal and regulatory considerations (privacy, IP, AI, data protection and similar frameworks) into clear, actionable guidance for security, marketing and other stakeholders
- Support complex customer, partner and vendor negotiations, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating agreements
- Draft and review terms, disclosures and marketing copy
- Help draft and maintain policies, playbooks, checklists, FAQs and training materials
- Provide flexible, generalist legal support across the team as priorities shift
Required profile
- J.D. from a respected institution and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
- 5+ years of relevant legal experience, including at least 1 year in-house
- Comfort in product and engineering meetings, with the ability to ask the right questions and give practical, real-time guidance
- Excellent written and verbal communication, able to simplify complex legal issues for a business audience
- Pragmatic, solution-oriented approach, meticulous attention to detail and independent project management
- Interest in the technical side of the business (APIs, encryption, LLMs, cloud architecture)
Nice to have: prior experience advising technical teams, experience drafting or negotiating technology transactions, and emerging knowledge of U.S. or global privacy, AI or technology regulatory frameworks.
What we offer
- Estimated salary of $195,720 to $234,864, with possible equity and discretionary bonus participation
- Medical, dental and vision insurance, family planning and mental health support, Employee Assistance Program, and life, disability and accident insurance
- Flexible vacation policy and up to 18 days of accrued paid sick leave
- 401(k) with company match and an employee stock purchase program
- 12 paid local holidays and 12 paid wellness days in 2026
The role requires availability during core business hours and is offered under a largely hybrid model. Applications are made through the Fastly careers site.
