Process Systems Engineer, Pulp & Paper

About the role

ABB is hiring a Process Systems Engineer for its pulp and paper business, reporting to the QCS Engineering Manager. The engineer acts as design authority for a discipline of low to medium complexity, completing assignments on small projects or parts of larger ones in a cost-effective way, while applying basic design thinking and design-for-excellence concepts. The work model allows a remote location, ideally in Ohio or Wisconsin, with up to 60% travel.

Key responsibilities

• Sales support: collect baseline and performance-guarantee data, give process-control expertise during order pursuit, and liaise between sales and customer process-control and engineering teams.
• Planning and scheduling: develop the systems engineering plan (implementation order, control-tuning and operator-training duration) and manage the systems engineering team for site coverage.
• Project execution: prepare system software for internal integration tests, support the 100% internal test, and support factory acceptance testing with the customer.
• Operator training: develop general and project-specific training materials and schedules, and deliver classroom and hands-on training.
• Results delivery: tune and optimize control features, compare results against performance objectives, and provide technical lead during start-up, optimization and results stages.
• Customer satisfaction: implement customer-requested specials, resolve post-commissioning issues, and continue supporting the customer after commissioning.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree required; Engineering or Paper Science degree preferred.
• 2+ years of experience required; industrial experience helpful but not required.
• Fluent written and spoken English; Spanish is a plus.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
