Process R&D Manager

About the role

Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials is looking for a Process R&D Manager in St Gabriel. The role owns R&D efforts on key programs across the portfolio, supported by a small direct team and a broader team in global technology centers. It is a hands-on, matrixed role managing several simultaneous projects such as new process development, technology licensing, piloting, techno-economic assessments, contract R&D, process improvements and plant troubleshooting. The manager acts as an advisor to senior management on key technical questions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop cost-effective processes to manufacture new products at scale, using agile, fast-to-fail approaches
• Build a deep understanding of process technology, options, trade-offs and economics
• Drive technology licensing and transfer, and support engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning
• Set operational objectives and work plans across technology centers, and define or improve global R&D methodologies and standards
• Mentor lab staff on chemistry and engineering studies and lead piloting studies
• Find and develop external R&D partners, lead plant troubleshooting and pilot plant design
• Mentor junior staff and follow a safety-first culture in line with local regulations

Required profile

• MS or PhD in Chemical Engineering plus 10 years of post-graduate industry experience
• Ability to own early-stage, less-defined R&D programs
• Hands-on experience in technology transfer, pilot or full-scale plant build and/or operations
• Understanding of chemical unit operations and equipment, and of process safety design
• Executive presence and ability to handle multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
• Desired: LiPF6 or other fluorochemical production experience, solid-liquid separation and powder handling expertise, statistics and process modeling/simulation experience

What we offer

• Compensation typically in the range of $140,000 - $170,000, with possible short- and long-term incentives
