Privacy Program Specialist

About the role

The Smithsonian Institution is seeking a Privacy Program Specialist to support the Smithsonian Privacy Officer in managing the organization’s information privacy program. This role serves as a subject‑matter expert, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and internal policies across all Smithsonian operations.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate, implement, and manage daily operations of the privacy program.
• Develop policy and procedural guidance for Smithsonian employees and affiliates.
• Conduct independent reviews and assessments of IT and paper record systems for privacy compliance.
• Design and facilitate privacy training workshops for managers and staff.
• Provide breach and incident response planning and support for PII incidents.

Required profile

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS‑12 level in the Federal Service.
• Experience in at least three of the following areas: privacy program administration, compliance evaluation, privacy training, incident response, briefing on privacy/security implications, or risk assessments.
• Ability to pass a pre‑employment background investigation and meet other federal employment conditions.
