About the role
The Principal Systems Engineer – OSS Design & Architecture will lead the design, development, integration and documentation of Operations Support Systems for a critical federal program. This senior individual contributor works on‑site five days a week in Middletown, NJ, translating technical and operational requirements into scalable OSS solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Support the Chief Engineer and Systems Lead in developing and maturing the end‑to‑end OSS architecture.
- Develop and document system architecture, functional requirements, interfaces, data flows and integration needs.
- Translate program, security and performance requirements into detailed subsystem specifications.
- Evaluate OSS products and vendor solutions, perform trade studies and recommend technical solutions.
- Coordinate verification, test scenarios and acceptance criteria with test engineering.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews, technical interchange meetings and system integration activities.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related field.
- Significant experience in systems engineering, solution architecture and OSS environments within multi‑vendor networks.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and technical communication skills.
- Experience supporting large federal or mission‑critical infrastructure programs is preferred.
Required skills
- Systems engineering principles: requirements analysis, architecture, interface definition, verification and validation.
- Network management functions: fault, configuration, performance, inventory, monitoring, telemetry and service assurance.
- Knowledge of network telemetry, SNMP, APIs, event management, topology and automation.
- Experience with IP, WAN, SD‑WAN and large‑scale managed network environments.
