Principal Power Electronics Engineer

About the role

Shield AI is building its next-generation aircraft X-BAT and is looking for a Principal Power Electronics Engineer to own the design of the power electronics and the systems they integrate with. The role covers architecture and converter design, development and delivery across aircraft programs, from concept through production.

Key responsibilities

• Own flight-critical power system design for X-BAT, including high-voltage and low-voltage power electronics such as inverters, DC-DC converters and battery management.
• Lead others in design, verification and manufacturing deployment, and mentor the power team and cross-functionally.
• Harden designs for harsh environments such as shock and vibration, high reliability, radiation and high altitude.
• Work on power subsystems for low power (<1 kW) and high power (>10 kW).
• Run full-cycle hardware development: concept, modeling, worst-case analysis, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, testing and validation.
• Drive PCB layout and design with ECAD engineers, optimizing for power density, EMI, thermal and manufacturability.
• Design for safety, manufacturability and reliability, and lead cross-functional design reviews.
• Manage project timelines, deliverables and technical milestones.

Required profile

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 10+ years of experience as an electrical engineer.
• Experience with circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, circuit testing and debugging.
• A record of hard work, trustworthiness, high standards and kindness.
• Ability to obtain a S//SAR level security clearance is desired.

• Familiarity with Altium or equivalent.
