Principal Investigator – Dermatology Clinical Trials (MD/DO)

About the role

Hawthorne Health is seeking an experienced dermatologist (MD/DO) to serve as a part‑time Principal Investigator for sponsor‑initiated dermatology clinical trials. This independent‑contract position will lead studies across Hawthorne’s community‑based site network, ensuring high‑quality, patient‑friendly research.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct standardized disease activity and damage assessments using validated instruments such as SLICC/ACR Damage Index, BILAG, SLEDAI‑2K, CLASI, Physician Global Assessment, and joint count.
• Oversee all aspects of trial conduct at the site, ensuring compliance with the protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ICH guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Lead and supervise the research team, delegating duties, providing training, and maintaining oversight.
• Perform remote review of patient eligibility, medical histories, and assessments to ensure proper enrollment.
• Interpret laboratory results, ECGs, and other diagnostics, making critical medical decisions regarding adverse events and protocol deviations.
• Manage investigational product accountability, storage, and administration.
• Communicate with sponsors, CROs, IRBs, and regulatory authorities, and participate in site initiation, monitoring, audits, and inspections.

Required profile

• MD or DO with unrestricted medical license in the United States.
• Experience leading at least three sponsor‑initiated clinical trials as a Principal Investigator or Sub‑Investigator.
• Strong knowledge of dermatology clinical research and regulatory standards.
• Ability to work independently in a part‑time, contract capacity.
