Principal Accountant

About the role

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs is seeking a Principal Accountant to join the Georgia Housing Finance Authority team. This senior accounting position supports the agency’s mission to develop safe, decent, and affordable housing across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze, record, and interpret financial transactions in accordance with GAAP.
• Prepare specialized and standard accounting reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide accurate information to auditors and assist with audit processes.
• Oversee complex accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support financial planning and budgeting.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Extensive experience in public sector accounting or a similar environment.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting standards.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
