Principal Accountant

About the role

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Accountant (Level 3) to join its finance team in St Rose, LA. The role supports the Financial Controller and contributes to accurate financial reporting, cash management, and month‑end close activities, with the option for partial telework after six months.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and consolidated financial reports.
• Analyze and record financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Provide troubleshooting support and guidance on accounting issues.
• Handle accounts receivable reporting and resolve payment discrepancies.
• Analyze unbilled balances and support monthly cash collection and forecasting.
• Interface with internal and external customers to address financial inquiries.
• Maintain a robust month‑end close process.
• Manage the bi‑monthly payroll process.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of accounting experience, or a Master’s degree with three years of experience.
• Ability to work on‑site in St Rose, LA.
• Familiarity with government contracting environments is preferred.
• Experience leading a small team is a plus.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel and overall Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Knowledge of GAAP, FAR, CAS, and IFRS accounting standards.
• Experience with proprietary financial reporting systems.
