Preconstruction Manager – Construction Estimating

About the role

Alston Construction is seeking a Preconstruction Manager to lead the estimation and bid preparation process for upcoming projects. The role combines technical estimating expertise with business development support to deliver competitive, profitable proposals.

Key responsibilities

• Use professional judgment to manage daily preconstruction activities and mitigate project risk.
• Develop thorough, accurate, and competitive cost estimates throughout all design phases.
• Identify value‑engineered alternatives related to methods, materials, schedule, and design.
• Define proposal specifications and scope of work by reviewing drawings and leading bid meetings.
• Analyze historical cost data, purchase orders, and contracts to inform future estimates.
• Provide design assistance and feasibility cost data to clients, designers, and project teams.
• Prepare comprehensive bid packages and guide the bidding process.
• Support business development initiatives to secure new work.

Required profile

• Proven experience in preconstruction, estimating, or bid management within the construction industry.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to make independent decisions.
• Excellent communication with clients, design professionals, and internal teams.
• Detail‑oriented with a focus on delivering accurate, profitable proposals.
