Power Plant Operator – Landfill Gas Facility

About the role

The Operator will run and maintain a landfill‑gas‑fueled power plant that uses multiple spark‑ignition reciprocating engines and associated auxiliary equipment. This position ensures safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation while complying with all regulatory and company safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the power plant, including engines, generators, pumps, chillers, and valves.
• Perform regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on fixed plant equipment and the Gas Collection and Control System (GCCS).
• Document and report equipment conditions, maintenance actions, and operational data accurately.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical systems, including fault‑finding.
• Participate in on‑call rotation and respond to call‑outs promptly.
• Carry out routine housekeeping and ensure personal and team health and safety.
• Support company policies and procedures as directed by supervisors.

Required profile

• Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and on‑call hours.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work safely in high‑stress situations and cooperate with co‑workers and contractors.
• Physical ability to stand, bend, climb, and lift up to 80 lb.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record and willingness to travel when required.

Required skills

• Mechanical or electrical maintenance background.
• Experience with gas and/or diesel reciprocating engines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to collect, interpret data and produce clear reports.
• Use of instrumentation, metering and monitoring equipment to adjust operating parameters.
