Power Plant Operator

About the role

Emporia State University is seeking a Power Plant Operator to join its Physical Plant team. The role works the 4:00 pm – 12:00 am shift and is responsible for maintaining and operating the campus’s powerhouse systems, including high‑pressure steam boilers and building automation controls.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine lubrication, cleaning and rebuilding of instrumentation piping for steam, oil, water, air and gas lines.
• Record daily boiler logbook entries and track usage of steam, fuel oil and natural gas.
• Monitor and adjust the campus building automation system (STAEFA) that regulates heating and cooling.
• Operate high‑pressure steam boilers and analyze discharge water test results.
• Maintain high‑pressure boiler equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum two years of experience in a power plant or a similar environment.
• Relevant safety training and ability to meet physical demands (lift 50 lb, stand/walk 7+ hours per shift, manual dexterity).

Required skills

• STAEFA building automation system.
• High‑pressure steam boiler operation.
• Instrumentation piping maintenance.
