Postdoctoral Researcher in Geotechnical Engineering

About the role

The Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct interdisciplinary research on intelligent monitoring, resilient geotechnical systems, and transportation infrastructure at Prairie View A&M University. The role also includes teaching a course, mentoring students, and supporting the development of NCIT research laboratories.

Key responsibilities

• Lead cutting‑edge research on geotechnical infrastructure systems and emerging technologies.
• Develop and submit grant proposals, publish peer‑reviewed articles, and produce grant reports.
• Apply AI/ML techniques to intelligent monitoring, performance prediction, and risk assessment of infrastructure.
• Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students on research projects.
• Assist in planning, equipping, and operationalizing NCIT research labs, coordinating procurement of equipment and software.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering) or a closely related field.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, and project‑management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, with ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Commitment to mentoring students and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

Required skills

• Geotechnical fundamentals, soil behavior, numerical modeling, data analysis, and visualization.
• Artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques applied to engineering research.
• Advanced geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, FLAC).
• Programming and analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, R, AutoCAD, ArcGIS).
• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
