Postdoctoral Research Associate – Parasite Diagnostics

About the role

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct independent research in classical and molecular parasitology, developing diagnostic assays and contributing to peer‑reviewed publications. This full‑time, onsite position supports the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at Texas A&M University.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the project leader with development and implementation of research projects involving classical and molecular parasitology.
• Design, optimize, and validate nucleic‑acid‑based assays for parasite detection, including multiplex panels.
• Perform routine laboratory tests such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and ELISA, and analyze results.
• Maintain detailed records, manage data pipelines, and contribute to manuscript preparation and presentations.

Required profile

• PhD in Biomedical or Veterinary Sciences, Parasitology, Molecular Biology, Entomology or a related field.
• Record of peer‑reviewed publications in parasitology and experience working with laboratory animals.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Required skills

• Classical diagnostic parasitology techniques and microscopy.
• Parasite culture and in‑vitro assays.
• DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, RT‑PCR, qPCR, qRT‑PCR, digital PCR.
• ELISA, multiplex assay design, nanopore‑based detection.
• Bioinformatics and statistical analysis.
• Animal handling and sample collection.
