About the role
This full‑time, 1‑year fellowship is offered by the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities, Department of Forensic Services. Fellows work under the supervision of licensed forensic psychologists, delivering clinical and forensic psychological services to individuals involved in the legal system.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct court‑ordered competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility evaluations for adults and juveniles.
- Provide expert testimony in state, superior and juvenile courts as needed.
- Perform outpatient and inpatient annual reviews of individuals found not competent to stand trial.
- Participate in treatment teams, delivering individual and group therapy to forensic patients.
- Shadow inpatient services at DBHDD hospitals and assist with clinical evaluations.
- Accumulate 1,500‑2,000 supervised work hours to meet licensure requirements.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Clinical, Forensic, or related Psychology completed by the start date.
- Eligibility for post‑doctoral supervision and licensure.
- Strong knowledge of forensic assessment, competency law, and mental‑health treatment.
- Ability to work in correctional, hospital, and community settings.
- Excellent written and oral communication for reports and testimony.
