Port Engineer – MSC Government Experience Preferred

About the role

Patriot Maritime, a leading maritime contractor for the U.S. Government, is seeking experienced Port Engineers to support vessels under Military Sealift Command, MARAD, and its commercial fleet. The role requires managing vessel operations, safety, and maintenance while coordinating with shipyards and regulatory bodies.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee safe and economical operation of assigned vessels and manage cost‑effective performance.
• Resolve day‑to‑day vessel issues, including operational, technical, and safety matters.
• Ensure daily operations comply with Safety and Quality Management standards.
• Monitor and respond to incidents and reports via the Docmap program and SQMS, providing corrective actions within required timeframes.
• Review Class vessel reports for deficiencies and ensure compliance with date‑specific requirements.
• Participate in the Incident Response Team and conduct accident or near‑miss investigations.
• Verify vendor service reports with the Chief Engineer and inspect preventive maintenance records in SAMM.
• Track and report USCG 835 deficiencies and Port State Control findings.

Required profile

• Minimum three years as a Port Engineer with experience negotiating shipyard dry‑dock projects valued over $3 million.
• At least four years serving aboard government or commercial ocean‑going ships (≥4,000 HP) as Chief Engineer or First Assistant Engineer.
• Active Secret‑level security clearance or ability to obtain one.
