Political Affairs Intern – Support DRC IOT

About the role
The United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs is seeking a motivated Political Affairs Intern to support the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Integrated Office Team (IOT). This unpaid, full‑time internship (35 hours per week) runs for an initial three months with the possibility of extension to six months, and can be performed remotely or in a hybrid arrangement at the UN headquarters in New York.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse political and security developments related to the MONUSCO mandate.
- Prepare regular situation updates, press clippings and media summaries for senior staff.
- Draft weekly political and security reports for the UN Security Council.
- Assist in creating communication materials, presentations and briefing notes.
- Participate in meetings, take minutes and produce concise summaries.
- Conduct individual research assignments and support data‑driven analyses on political‑economy and peacekeeping topics.
- Undertake any additional tasks as requested by the team.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor’s degree (or higher).
- Strong interest in African political contexts, especially the DRC.
- Fluency in written and spoken English; French proficiency is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
