Plumber - Seasonal Contract (Winter 2027)

About the role

Amentum is hiring plumbers for a seasonal contract position supporting the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program as part of the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). Plumbers perform plumbing maintenance or construction tasking, or a combination of both, under the supervision of the Plumbing Foreman, with tasking driven by the ASC schedule. The work takes place in extreme cold and windy conditions, and may involve deployment to remote research support facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Cut, fit, connect and install plumbing piping, equipment, fixtures and systems in line with the Uniform Plumbing Code
• Diagnose, repair and maintain existing plumbing systems, including scheduled preventative maintenance
• Respond promptly to emergency service calls during and outside normal hours
• Document hours worked, tasking, materials and processes accurately
• Follow job plans, schematics, blueprints, vendor manuals and codes, and follow or help create standard operating procedures
• Work with other departments and occasionally assist other trades
• Take part in community programs such as house-mouse, daisy-picking, galley clean-up and recycling, and comply with ESH, waste management and quality requirements

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• Current Journeyman Plumber (8,000-hour) or Master Plumber license, or equivalent
• Union membership in good standing
• At least four years of documented plumbing experience covering piping, fixture installation and service and repair
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background checks and a US driver's license
• US citizenship required to obtain facility credentials at this location

Required skills

• Knowledge of plumbing principles and the Uniform Plumbing Code
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
• Computer experience and willingness to learn computer-based labor, inventory and maintenance tracking applications
• Preferred: experience with copper, PEX, PVC, galvanized steel, GRE, HDPE pipes and hydronic systems, Maximo or similar CMMS, Microsoft Office, and backflow prevention certification
