PLC Programming & Network Technician

About the role

Gerdau is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented PLC Programming & Network Technician to join its automation team in Midlothian, Texas. You will install, program, maintain and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and the industrial network infrastructure that connects them, bridging industrial electrical automation and IT networking to improve plant efficiency and uptime.

Key responsibilities

• Program and modify PLCs by designing, writing, modifying and optimizing control code (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Blocks) on platforms such as Rockwell Studio 5000 and Siemens TIA Portal.
• Configure and maintain industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus) and manage switches, routers and firewalls on the OT network.
• Troubleshoot and repair hardware and software faults on live automation systems, sensors, actuators, VFDs and networked assets.
• Develop and update graphics and alarms for HMIs and the IBA system so operators can see plant processes clearly.
• Commission machines and systems: perform I/O checkouts, verify point-to-point wiring and tune loops.
• Maintain documentation of control schematics, network topology diagrams and software code backups.

Required profile

• Associate degree in Industrial Automation, Electronics, Mechatronics, Computer Science or equivalent trade school certification.
• 10 years of experience with industrial automated systems and OT networks.
• Ability to read electrical blueprints, P&ID diagrams and control schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting under pressure, collaboration and communication with engineers and floor operators.

Required skills

• Proficiency with PLC software suites such as Rockwell/Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, DHCP, VLANs and managed switches.
