About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a senior physicist/scientist to lead the design and development of test platforms and custom tools for energy‑efficient computing applications. The role combines advanced modeling, simulation, and hands‑on hardware work to translate R&D innovations into scalable manufacturing solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and lead development of scalable test platforms and custom tools for R&D and pilot‑scale deployment.
• Build and validate physical models and perform simulations from device to system level.
• Collaborate with device and integration engineers to refine novel processes and manufacturing technologies.
• Identify and troubleshoot complex physics‑related problems in lab and field environments.
• Partner with cross‑functional teams to improve device performance, efficiency, and functionality.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Strong expertise in high‑speed photonic interconnect technologies and system‑level integration.
• Hands‑on experience with semiconductor manufacturing equipment and cleanroom environments.
• Proven track record of translating innovative concepts into product realization.
