Photonics Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Photonics Engineer to design, develop, and qualify advanced inspection and metrology systems that support next‑generation semiconductor and display technologies. The role combines physics research, system engineering, and hands‑on experimentation in a collaborative, innovative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define novel inspection system concepts and configurations.
• Collect, analyze data and design statistically valid experiments.
• Design, qualify, and engineer modules and sub‑modules for new products.
• Develop and modify inspection and metrology systems, performing research in physics.
• Define system requirements, troubleshoot issues, and support field physics problems.
• Lead feasibility studies, evaluate new technologies, and guide less‑experienced scientists.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in physics and related disciplines with ability to integrate knowledge across areas.
• Experience leading small projects, mentoring junior staff, and communicating complex technical information.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, capable of conducting risk‑based analyses and supporting product decisions.
