Phlebotomist 1 – Full‑Time (1st Shift)

About the role

The University of Miami Health Laboratories is seeking a full‑time Phlebotomist 1 to work the 1st shift (4:00 am – 12:00 pm) in the U‑Tower Hospital. The role involves drawing blood, verifying patient records, and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis while providing courteous, age‑appropriate care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy following the department’s procedure manual.
• Prioritize hematology and oncology specimens and manage pre‑accession tasks.
• Verify patient identity and answer questions about test requisitions, specimen requirements, and results.
• Maintain inventory levels, rotate stock, and keep accurate logs and files.
• Assist the supervisor with statistical reporting and generate routine reports.
• Process cancellations, credits, and additions of test procedures.
• Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding assets and confidential information.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomist certification and HIV certification.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum of 1 year relevant phlebotomy experience.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Commitment to university core values and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
