Phlebotomist 1 – Full-Time 1st Shift

About the role

The University of Miami Health Laboratories is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist 1 to work the 1st shift (4 am – 12:30 pm) at the U‑Tower Hospital. The incumbent will draw blood, verify patient records, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis while providing courteous, patient‑centered care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient phlebotomy according to the department’s procedure manual.
• Prioritize hematology and oncology specimens and manage pre‑accession labeling.
• Verify patient identity and answer questions about test requisitions, specimen requirements, and results.
• Maintain inventory, rotate stock, and keep accurate logs and files.
• Assist the supervisor with statistical reporting and generate routine reports.
• Process cancellations, credits, and additions of test procedures.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy certification and BLS certification (AHA).
• Minimum one year of relevant phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital or laboratory setting.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Commitment to confidentiality and university core values.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy technique and specimen handling.
• Knowledge of HIV testing protocols.
• Basic use of laboratory information systems for accessioning.
