Pharmacist 2 – Outpatient Community Pharmacy

About the role

The University of Rochester seeks a dedicated Pharmacist 2 to work in its outpatient community pharmacy. You will ensure safe, accurate medication dispensing while providing patient counseling and supporting clinical initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense medications for outpatients in compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Compound, prepare, and verify prescriptions, addressing problem prescriptions independently.
• Provide medication counseling to patients and answer drug‑related queries from providers.
• Supervise pharmacy technicians and manage workflow to maintain efficiency.
• Utilize pharmacy information systems to process and validate prescriptions and maintain patient profiles.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, including incident reporting and medication error follow‑up.
• Engage in clinical practice with interdisciplinary teams, contributing to initiatives such as immunizations, discharge planning, and wellness screenings.
• Monitor assigned patient populations, review laboratory results, and recommend therapy adjustments as needed.
• Document clinical interventions and activities accurately.

Required profile

• Knowledge of departmental and hospital policies related to medication dispensing.
• Ability to dispense accurately and timely while resolving prescription issues.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with hospital staff, patients, and providers.
• Experience supervising pharmacy technicians and managing workflow.
• Commitment to participating in quality assurance and clinical initiatives.
