About the role
Bureau Veritas is seeking a Petroleum Inspector to perform sampling and quantity surveys at client facilities such as refineries, terminals, tank farms, barges, vessels and railcars. The role requires accurate collection of petrochemical samples and precise measurement of product volumes while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities
- Receive orders, gather paperwork and ensure all sampling equipment is clean, calibrated and in good working condition.
- Travel to job sites on schedule, observe federal, state and client regulations, and represent Bureau Veritas professionally.
- Obtain and label samples from shore tanks, vessels, barges, railcars and trucks as specified in the job order.
- Calculate quantities, complete required paperwork and deliver samples to the laboratory or client facilities promptly.
- Communicate any discrepancies or incidents to the Operations Supervisor or Dispatcher without delay.
- Maintain a 24‑hour on‑call status and attend required meetings.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED with 2–4 years of related experience in petroleum sampling or inspection.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve problems quickly and maintain professional relationships with terminal and vessel personnel.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lb regularly (up to 100 lb with assistance) and meet site‑specific safety requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, technical manuals and write routine reports.
Required skills
- IFIA/TIC certification.
- Valid Transportation Worker’s Identification Card (TWIC).
- Valid driver’s license with vehicle insurance and registration.
- Proficiency with petroleum sampling equipment, calibration of measurement tools and familiarity with shore tanks, trucks, railcars, pipelines and barges.
