About the role
The Petroleum Inspector conducts on‑site sampling and quantity surveys of petroleum products at client facilities such as refineries, terminals, tank farms, barges, railcars and trucks. The role ensures accurate sample collection, proper labeling, and timely delivery to laboratories for analysis while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities
- Receive orders, gather paperwork, and verify equipment condition, including calibration of safety and monitoring tools.
- Travel to job sites punctually, observe all Bureau Veritas, federal, state, and client regulations, and attend key meetings with external personnel.
- Collect and gauge samples from shore tanks, vessels, barges, railcars, and tank trucks as specified in the job order.
- Label sample containers with complete identifying data and calculate quantities accurately.
- Deliver samples safely to Bureau Veritas laboratories or client facilities and complete required paperwork.
- Maintain a 24‑hour on‑call status and attend company meetings as required.
Required profile
- High school diploma or GED with 2–4 years of related experience in petroleum sampling or inspection.
- Proficiency with shore tanks, trucks, rail cars, pipelines, and barges.
- Knowledge of HS&E procedures and relevant governmental regulations.
- Ability to read technical documents, write routine reports, and communicate effectively with clients.
- Strong mathematical skills for calculations, ratios, and interpreting technical reports.
Required skills
- IFIA/TIC certification.
- Valid Transportation Worker’s Identification Card (TWIC).
- Valid driver’s license with vehicle insurance and registration.
- Proficiency in calibrating and operating sampling equipment.
- Experience in labeling and handling petroleum samples safely.
