Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Hospitalist (PRN)

About the role

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PRN) provides comprehensive direct patient care to children in a hospital setting, while also supporting education, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain detailed patient histories and perform complete physical examinations.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose illnesses, and prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatments.
• Deliver health maintenance, patient and family education, and counseling.
• Participate in staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement activities.

Required profile

• Master of Science in Nursing (NP) from an accredited program.
• Current national NP certification and registration with the Alabama Board of Nursing.
• Approval by Huntsville Hospital credentialing board.
• Minimum 3 years full‑time pediatric RN or CRNP experience (preferred).
• BLS certification required before orientation ends; PALS certification required within six months of hire.
