Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician (Academic Faculty)

About the role

The Department of Emergency Medicine at UCSF is seeking an Academic Faculty member to direct and oversee medical and surgical care in the Pediatric Emergency Department. The physician will provide clinical coverage, supervise trainees, and contribute to research and education while maintaining academic and hospital privileges.

Key responsibilities

• Provide a minimum of 72 clinical hours per month (≈864 hours annually) across scheduled shifts, weekends, nights, and on‑call duties.
• Supervise residents, interns, medical students, physician assistants and nurse practitioners in the pediatric ED.
• Ensure compliance with CMS documentation standards and complete timely medical records for all patient encounters.
• Maintain up‑to‑date credentialing, privileging, and a volunteer clinical professor appointment according to UCSF policies.
• Participate in faculty meetings, departmental committees, and on‑call backup rotations.
• Support and facilitate faculty‑led research activities within the emergency department.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
• Commitment to a minimum of 72 clinical hours per month and required weekend, night, and holiday coverage.
• Academic appointment or willingness to obtain a volunteer clinical professor rank at UCSF.
• Ability to supervise and teach residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers.
• Professionalism in punctuality, attire, communication, and collaboration with nursing and ancillary staff.

Required skills

• Familiarity with CMS documentation standards.
