Patrol Sergeant – Washington D.C.

About the role

The Georgetown University Police Department is seeking a Patrol Sergeant to provide law‑enforcement services on its two campuses in Washington, D.C. The incumbent will protect students, faculty, staff, visitors and dignitaries by maintaining safety and order across university property.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular patrols of the Hilltop and Capitol campuses.
• Provide event security and respond to incidents.
• Perform investigations and manage access‑control and circulation systems.
• Enforce university policies and applicable laws under General and Special Orders.
• Collaborate with police officers, communication officers, security staff and student guards.

Required profile

• High school diploma (college degree preferred).
• U.S. citizenship and minimum age of 21.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain university driver certification.
• Successful completion of written, report‑writing, drug, physical, psychological tests and background investigation.
• Eligibility for a Campus Special Police Officer Commission (non‑lateral hires).

Required skills

• Certification in Arrest Control Tactics, Baton and OC‑based aerosol subject restraint.
• Completion of the Consortium of Universities Law Enforcement Academy training (or equivalent).
