Part-Time Sign Language Interpreter

About the role

Georgia Piedmont Technical College is seeking qualified part‑time sign language interpreters to support deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students, faculty, and staff across its campuses. This role provides essential communication access in classrooms, meetings, and other college settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting and transliteration services for students, faculty, and staff in a variety of academic and institutional contexts.
• Accurately convey meaning, tone, and intent of spoken and signed communication.
• Exercise independent, real‑time judgment to select the most effective interpreting method for each assignment.
• Adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
• Collaborate with accessibility services, teachers, and learners to ensure effective communication access.
• Prepare for assignments by reviewing relevant materials, terminology, and subject matter.
• Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professional demeanor for all scheduled interpreting sessions.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and excellent listening skills.
• Solid grasp of English grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision.
• Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards.

Required skills

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting.
• Experience with transliteration (manual, oral, or tactile communication systems).
• Knowledge of the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
