Part-Time Patient Access Representative (Intermediate)

About the role

Optum, in partnership with Allina Health, is hiring a part-time Patient Access Representative Intermediate at the River Falls Area Hospital in River Falls, Wisconsin. The role greets patients in person, collects their information and enters it into the electronic medical record, supporting the Allina Health account.

Key responsibilities

• Greet and welcome patients in person and collect demographic and insurance information
• Check patients in, interview them and complete the appropriate paperwork
• Direct patients to their appointment or procedure and may help schedule add-on appointments
• Document issues and resolutions in the electronic medical record and resolve claim issues or registration errors
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, explain costs and collect co-pays or deductibles, and refer complex questions
• Screen and approve patients for financial assistance programs and help them apply
• Answer inbound and outbound phone calls, obtain patient signatures and help complete request-for-information forms
• Provide technical direction to employees and may mentor other staff; other duties as assigned

Required profile

• 2+ years of customer service experience and 6+ months of revenue cycle experience in a healthcare or hospital setting
• Ability to work 8:00am to 4:30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and full-time standard daytime hours for 3 weeks during training
• Aged 18 or older
• Preferred: revenue cycle experience, general office experience and flexibility to work other shifts

Required skills

• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products
• Quality communication skills and dependability

• Hourly pay of $18.00 to $32.00 depending on full-time employment
