Part-Time Lecturer in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies

About the role

The Department of Ancient and Modern Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences at John Carroll University is seeking an Adjunct Instructor (part-time) starting the spring semester of 2027. The teaching load is one undergraduate Latin course at the second-semester level and one course on Greek and Roman mythology taught in English. Part-time faculty are paid on a per-credit-hour basis.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare course materials and pedagogy to meet course learning goals and objectives.
• Teach the assigned courses using appropriate pedagogy.
• Deliver classes on the assigned days and times.
• Use the university's learning management system to share course information with students.
• Evaluate and grade student work in a timely manner.
• Be available to students during posted hours and respond promptly to departmental and student communications.
• Collaborate with supervisors and colleagues, take part in departmental assessment of student learning, and engage in departmental and university service appropriate to the rank.

Required profile

• MA or PhD in Classics, Classical Archaeology or Ancient History from an accredited U.S. institution or an internationally recognized university.
• A strong record of professional service and willingness to take part in departmental and university service.
• Commitment to outstanding teaching and an excellent student experience.
• Preferred: experience teaching language and culture at the undergraduate level.

Courses are taught on campus during the academic year; class times vary and instructors are expected to post available time for student questions outside class hours. Conferences may be held by Zoom or telephone. The university is located in University Heights, Ohio.
