Part-Time Grocery Clerk

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market, a part of Meijer, is hiring a part-time Grocery Clerk in Kenosha. The clerk keeps grocery shelves stocked and clean during business hours, assists customers and follows the Grocery Department's procedures. The position suits someone interested in the retail grocery market and organic products.

Key responsibilities

• Keep shelves, storage areas and work areas clean and safe, including sweeping and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock shelves according to department schematics, present products correctly and check tag and pricing accuracy.
• Check product rotation, discard expired or spoiled items and inspect incoming shipments for temperature and quality.
• Answer customer questions, help with purchases and sell and cross-sell products.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, coupons and promotional materials.
• Use equipment such as knives, scales, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and weigh and label products accurately.
• Cut and stack cases for displays, prepare back stock and take part in inventory preparation.
• Maintain product knowledge and walk the department regularly to keep it organized and sanitary.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience and previous experience in a natural foods industry.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.
• Familiarity with Health Department guidelines for grocery retail.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of math, weights and measures.
• Attention to detail, multitasking and organizational skills.
• Customer service, verbal communication and teamwork.
