Part-Time Cashier

About the role

Fresh Thyme Market, a retailer of real, affordable organic food, is hiring a part-time cashier in Fairview Heights. The cashier handles customer sales transactions at the front registers, keeps proper control of cash, ensures customer satisfaction and safeguards company assets, while assisting customers and following the Front End Department's procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Walk the store before each shift to check promotions and sales items, do the produce walk and weekly testing.
• Compute bills, itemized lists and tickets showing the amount due.
• Receive payment by cash, check, credit card, gift card or automatic debit and issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks and change.
• Operate the cash register: scan price-coded items, enter PLU or UPC manually, and show the total, tax and rebates on the screen.
• Greet customers and respond promptly to their needs.
• Maintain clean, orderly checkout areas free of personal items.
• Issue coupons and rain checks, and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: 1-2 years of grocery retail experience in front-end processes, and previous experience in natural foods is a plus.
• Ability to work varied hours and days as business dictates.

Required skills

• Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Point of Sale (POS) system operation.
• Basic math, weights and measures.
• Customer service, attention to detail, multitasking and organizational skills.
