Parks Maintenance Trail Crew Leader

About the role

Under the close supervision of the Parks Division Head and Parks Supervisors, the Trail Crew Leader performs skilled work related to risk management, maintenance and construction of city parks, trails, streetscapes, cemeteries, recreation facilities, special events, irrigation systems, the Senior Citizen's Center and other green spaces.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and construct trails, parks, streetscapes, cemetery grounds and recreation facilities.
• Supervise seasonal employees and coordinate with other City departments and the public.
• Operate a variety of park‑maintenance equipment, including light and heavy trucks, tractors, backhoes, sandblasters, spray rigs, rotary hammers and welding machines.
• Ensure compliance with SDS, OSHA and other safety standards while handling pesticides and flagging operations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; six months training in trails maintenance or horticulture preferred.
• At least two years of related work experience, with one year of supervisory experience preferred.
• Valid Utah driver’s license; obtain Utah Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire.
• Obtain non‑commercial pesticide license and flagging certificate within the required time frames.
• One‑year probationary period; knowledge of plant and turf care, construction practices and proper English usage.

Required skills

• Operation of light and heavy trucks.
• Operation of tractors, backhoes, sandblasters, spray rigs, rotary hammers and welding machines.
• Pesticide application with a non‑commercial license.
• Flagging certification.
• Use of computers, copy machines and telephone equipment for communication and record‑keeping.
