Paralegal – Remote (Washington D.C. area)

About the role

The National Student Legal Defense Network is seeking a dedicated Paralegal to join its mission‑driven legal team. This remote position, based in the Washington D.C. area, supports attorneys and policy staff in case development, litigation management, and communications while ensuring the organization’s work remains grounded in the experiences of students and borrowers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct plaintiff outreach, vetting, factual research, and draft explanatory materials.
• Provide litigation support: format, prepare, cite‑check, and proofread legal documents, review discovery materials, and communicate with clients and co‑counsel.
• Serve as the primary administrative point of contact for the legal team.
• Coordinate public records requests, track deadlines, and maintain electronic files.
• Update the organization’s website and social media platforms, manage email and outreach lists, and draft communications.
• Manage intake process, identify potential representation candidates, and respond to inquiries.

Required profile

• 1‑2 years of work experience in a legal department or law firm.
• Residency in the Washington D.C. area.
• Ability to work remotely with occasional in‑person meetings and events.
