Package Handler Trainer (FT-1)

About the role

The Package Handler Trainer (FT-1) is responsible for teaching new and existing Package Handlers (PHs) the proper techniques for loading, unloading, palletizing, scanning, and handling non‑conveyable packages. The role ensures safe, efficient movement of packages throughout the operation while also performing hands‑on handling tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Train new PHs on unloading, loading, palletizing, small‑package handling, SWAK, and non‑conveyable package techniques.
• Provide additional instruction and feedback to PHs as needed, reinforcing dock safety standards.
• Demonstrate and model all required processes and procedures.
• Update managers on sort conditions to support operational decisions.
• Assist in implementing new handling procedures and techniques.
• Perform regular loading, unloading, palletizing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of packages while training peers.
• Use hand‑to‑surface methods and basic equipment to move packages safely.

Required profile

• No formal education required; six months of PH experience preferred.
• Ability to train multiple peers simultaneously and follow safety instructions.
• Capability to read labels, scan packages, and sort based on numbers and charts.
• Physical ability to work in hot or cold temperatures, tolerate loud noise, and lift 10‑50 lb repeatedly for 3‑5 hour shifts.
• Valid driver’s license for operating switching equipment and maintaining a DOT file.

Required skills

• Use of hand‑held scanners.
• Operation of skate‑wheel rollers, dock carts, chutes, and unloading devices.
• Basic tool handling for package movement.
