Owners Engineer – Utility‑Scale Renewable Projects

About the role

The Owners Engineer will provide owner‑side technical oversight for utility‑scale renewable energy projects throughout their full lifecycle, from early engineering studies through construction, commissioning and as‑built documentation. Reporting to MN8 Energy’s engineering leadership, you will ensure third‑party designs meet MN8 standards and project risk is identified and mitigated.

Key responsibilities

• Review 30%, 90% and as‑built/IFC drawing packages covering Electrical, Civil, Structural and Communications disciplines.
• Analyze technical documentation such as EPC contracts, equipment specifications, warranties, electrical and thermal studies during due‑diligence and construction phases.
• Assess critical project reports including geotechnical, ESA, wetlands, interconnection agreements, system impact, hydrology and corrosion studies.
• Perform engineering calculations (NEC maximum system voltage, conductor sizing, over‑current protection, utility disconnect requirements, voltage drop and conduit sizing).
• Develop value‑engineering and risk‑analysis reports.
• Design optimized solar PV systems – array layout, DC string sizing, equipment placement and utility interconnection for rooftop, carport and ground‑mount (fixed‑tilt or single‑axis tracking) configurations.
• Coordinate with EPC contractors, third‑party engineers and equipment vendors, supervising the production of IFC drawing sets.
• Review energy model outputs from PVSYST and flag discrepancies.
• Support technical RFI and change‑order evaluations.

Required profile

• Strong engineering fundamentals and independent technical judgment.
• Detail‑oriented with the ability to spot gaps, risks and inconsistencies in third‑party deliverables.
• Experience working across Electrical, Civil, Structural and Communications disciplines in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
