Optometric Assistant

About the role

Dunbar Eye Associates, an independent optometry practice serving the Kanawha Valley, is looking for an Optometric Assistant to support patient care and clinical operations. No prior optometric experience is required; on‑the‑job training will be provided.

Key responsibilities

• Perform screening and diagnostic testing for patients.
• Assist the optometrist in the exam room, including scribing and pre‑testing.
• Support optical sales and dispensing tasks.
• Train patients on contact lens use.
• Answer phones, schedule appointments, and manage referrals.
• Coordinate with other provider offices as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree in a related field is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask accurately.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Reliability in attendance and punctuality.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computers and ability to learn an EMR system.
