Optomechanical Engineer

About the role

Overview Energy is seeking an Optomechanical Engineer to lead the design, analysis, manufacturing, and integration of precision optomechanical assemblies for space‑based optical systems supporting spacecraft and space‑based solar power applications.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with optical and spacecraft engineering teams.
• Lead design, analysis, and integration of precision opto‑mechanical assemblies for space applications.
• Develop innovative mechanical solutions that satisfy optical, thermal, and structural requirements.
• Create prototypes, detailed drawings, and production instructions.
• Perform structural and thermal analyses, including finite‑element analysis.
• Hands‑on work with hardware for prototyping, production, and testing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Sciences, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in opto‑mechanical engineering.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (ITAR compliance).

Required skills

• 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX.
• Opto‑mechanical tolerance analysis.
• Structural and thermal analysis using FEA tools.
• Knowledge of materials science, adhesives, coatings, and environmental sealing for optics.
• Design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT) concepts.
• Experience with environmental performance validation (shock, vibration, temperature testing).
• Use of optical test instruments like wavefront sensors, interferometers, and beam profilers.
