Operator I – Water Treatment & Sludge Processing

About the role

The Operator I is responsible for operating and maintaining sludge dewatering, treatment and processing equipment at a refinery/industrial facility. The role ensures water is purified to meet customer specifications while supporting safe and efficient plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, and chemical feed systems.
• Control odor, disinfection, and sludge processing equipment including filters and belt presses.
• Perform testing, measurement and material handling tasks to meet quality and processing targets.
• Use computer‑based process control programs to monitor and adjust operations.
• Participate in a 24‑hour rotational on‑call emergency response as required.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend English operational, safety and quality instructions.
• Basic mathematical calculation skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Willingness to pass drug test and background check.

Required skills

• Operation of pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, mixers, conveyors, blowers and dryers.
• Experience with chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, sludge processing filters and belt presses.
• Proficiency with process control software and related measuring devices.
