Operator I – Wastewater Treatment Plant

About the role

The Operator I is responsible for the day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of a Grade III wastewater treatment plant, its spray irrigation system and a Class II wastewater collection system. The role serves as the backup Operator In Charge, ensuring safe, efficient plant performance and compliance with all state and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct routine water quality testing, record results, and maintain the plant logbook.
• Monitor charts, gauges, SCADA screens and other operating equipment; calibrate instrumentation and on‑line analyzers as required.
• Adjust processes to keep treatment operations within regulatory limits.
• Inspect pump stations and collection system components.
• Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on pumps, equipment and instrumentation.
• Prepare and file required regulatory documents and permits.
• Maintain plant property, housekeeping and grounds in good order.
• Develop, update and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Generate operational and repair reports; manage inventories and order chemicals, materials and supplies.
• Interface with state regulatory agencies and client contacts; address customer inquiries and complaints.

• Full‑time availability with on‑call, weekend and call‑in duties.
• Ability to work safely following health and safety standards.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate record‑keeping and regulatory compliance.
• Effective communication with regulators, clients and internal teams.
