Operational Controller

About the role

We are seeking an Operational Controller to lead accounting operations and provide operational insight for a high‑volume manufacturing organization in the Chicago suburbs. The role partners closely with operations, IT and senior leadership to drive continuous improvement, cost efficiency and accurate financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, rebates and fixed assets.
• Oversee month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Provide operational analysis such as labor reporting, inventory management and equipment utilization.
• Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Establish and maintain internal controls, policies and procedures.
• Support capital expenditure analysis and equipment investment decisions.
• Partner with operations and IT to improve systems, automation and workflows.
• Coordinate external reviews and related tax filings.
• Lead, mentor and develop accounting managers and staff.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business (required); CPA preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 6 years in leadership roles.
• Extensive experience in high‑volume manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting and inventory management.
• Experience with tier‑one ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP.
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical, organizational and communication abilities.

• Salary range $140,000–$175,000 plus discretionary bonus.
