Open Rank Faculty Position – Finance (Clinical/Professor of Practice)

About the role

The Department of Finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, College Park, is seeking non‑tenure‑track faculty at an open rank. Positions range from Clinical Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor to Lecturer and Professor of Practice. Successful candidates will design and deliver high‑quality finance courses to undergraduate, MBA, specialty master’s, and DBA students while engaging with the broader business community.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and develop finance curricula for undergraduate and graduate programs.
• Incorporate current research and industry practice, including AI and emerging technologies, into course content.
• Provide student advising, support admissions processes, and assist with career placement activities.
• Participate in program administration and contribute to community outreach initiatives.
• Maintain a visible presence in the business community (for Clinical and Professor of Practice ranks).

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Finance or a closely related field (required for Clinical ranks).
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching finance at the undergraduate or graduate level.
• Strong external visibility in the business community for Clinical and Professor of Practice candidates.
• Prior teaching experience at a top‑ranked business school is preferred.
• Senior corporate leadership experience and expertise in AI applications are valued.

Required skills

• Ability to integrate latest research and practice into teaching.
• Excellent communication and pedagogical skills in finance.
• Knowledge of finance theory, financial markets, and quantitative methods.
