On-Call Porter

About the role

The Operations department of the Skirball Cultural Center is seeking an on‑call Porter to keep public, office and exhibition spaces clean and orderly. This variable‑hour position supports daily maintenance and the set‑up and tear‑down of furniture and equipment for events and meetings.

Key responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub, wax, vacuum and clean museum exhibit spaces, hallways, stairs, restrooms, offices, walls, windows, doors and equipment.
• Empty trash containers and keep parking lots, walkways and surrounding areas free of debris.
• Set up tables, chairs, stands and equipment for events according to design plans and break them down after use.
• Transport, load and unload furniture and equipment across campus as needed.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in institutional housekeeping and ability to perform physical labor such as walking, standing, lifting up to 50 lb and climbing.
• Ability to read and follow safety rules, cleaning‑chemical instructions and equipment manuals.
• Fluent in English; Spanish a plus; courteous interpersonal skills.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Required skills

• Operation of floor‑care equipment, waxes and cleaning machines.
• Use of biologically and environmentally safe cleaning agents.
• Basic maintenance of cleaning equipment.
