NYSA Summer Photography Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) at the International Rescue Committee is seeking a Summer Photography Intern to document a six‑week program for newly arrived refugee youth in Manhattan. This unpaid, part‑time internship runs from June 29 to August 21 2026 and offers hands‑on experience capturing events, classes, portraits and year‑book images for internal and external communications.

Key responsibilities

• Photograph NYSA events, classes, community activities, field trips and graduation.
• Take individual and group portraits of students and staff for the year‑book.
• Collaborate with the Yearbook Coordinator and Graphic Designer to ensure consistent visual documentation.
• Organize and deliver image files by date and event in easy‑to‑download formats.
• Edit photo rolls and perform basic photo editing as needed.
• Maintain regular communication with IRC administrators and program staff.

Required profile

• Available to work on‑site in Manhattan for at least 50 % of priority days/events.
• Commitment to a part‑time schedule of 4‑15 hours per week, Wednesday and Friday activities included.
• Interest in working with diverse youth and understanding of photography ethics.
