Nurse Investigator – Atlanta

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Nurse Investigator to conduct clinical mortality reviews for individuals receiving developmental disability services. This full‑time position is based in Atlanta and involves collaboration with multiple agencies and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct investigations and clinical mortality reviews of deaths among service recipients.
• Interview witnesses, complainants, and persons of interest to gather relevant information.
• Collect and preserve evidence using established investigative methods.
• Request, review, and analyze medical records and other pertinent data.
• Coordinate investigations with other agencies as needed.
• Maintain accurate, detailed investigator notes and case histories.
• Develop comprehensive investigation reports that draw conclusions based on evidence, testimony, policies, and regulations.
• Provide technical support to providers regarding identified deficiencies.
• Enter data accurately into multiple databases and ensure timely documentation.
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and prioritize workload to meet daily needs.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and provider manuals.
• Ability to conduct thorough interviews and gather reliable evidence.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and stakeholder interaction.
• Organizational skills to manage case files, notes, and deadlines.
