Nuclear Engineer – Sensors

About the role

Radiant Industries is developing the world’s first mass‑produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company is looking for a Nuclear Engineer to lead sensor and instrumentation solutions for its 1‑MW Kaleidos microreactor, covering radiation detection, neutron flux monitoring, and instrumentation design and qualification.

Key responsibilities

• Design, specify, and qualify in‑core and ex‑core detector systems (e.g., fission chambers, ion chambers) for neutron flux and radiation monitoring.
• Model detector response and verify performance using radiation transport codes.
• Evaluate sensor survivability under high‑temperature, high‑radiation, and accident‑condition environments.
• Integrate sensor outputs with reactor control and data‑acquisition systems.
• Support verification and validation of instrumentation against customer and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams and communicate technical findings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or a related accredited discipline.
• 1–2 + years of nuclear engineering industry experience (or equivalent Master’s experience).
• Experience with radiation detection or instrumentation in a nuclear context.

Required skills

• Radiation detection and neutron flux monitoring.
• Detector design and qualification (fission chambers, ion chambers, etc.).
• Radiation transport modeling (e.g., MCNP, SCALE).
• Verification & validation of instrumentation.
• Integration of sensors with control and data‑acquisition systems.
• High‑temperature and high‑radiation environmental qualification.
